Treatment Approaches

Child & Adolescent Therapy

I am a trained play therapist, so I like to incorporate fun, art, writing, music, and favorite things into my work with children and teens. While my exact approach may differ depending on your child’s needs, in general, our sessions will focus on building a trusting relationship, identifying feelings and the thoughts and behaviors that go along with them, strengthening family and peer relationships, improving self-esteem and self-compassion, and coping with life’s challenges.

Parent Therapy

Parenting is such a challenging task! So many parents that I work with are far too hard on themselves. I believe that there is no one “right” way to be a parent, so we work together to understand your parenting strengths, areas for growth, and opportunities for connection with their children. Together, we will work on parenting skills to minimize power struggles and implement a parenting approach that works for your family.

Adult Therapy

I believe that it is never too late to work on yourself. I work with adults who are struggling with aspects of their daily lives and relationships and help them understand what may be getting in the way of feeling fulfilled, successful, and content. Oftentimes, this may be something from a long time ago, maybe childhood. Other times, this may be something that is occurring in the present and that you may need a place to talk through difficult choices. My goal in my work with adults is for them to have a place to practice self-compassion, heal old wounds, minimize harmful patterns, and learn new skills.

Frequently Asked Questions

I see therapy as a collaborative process and agreement between you and me. For all types of therapy, we begin with an intake appointment, where I learn about you, and you learn about me. If you are seeking therapy for your child, I may also meet with him/her during that first appointment. From there, we identify what your goals are and if you think I might be a good fit to help you meet those goals. Based on a number of factors, we determine how frequently we will meet, review the rules of confidentiality, and then schedule appointments.

Each session is generally 50 minutes long.

I do not take insurance directly. All therapy appointments are self-pay at the time of service. However, I am able to provide all of my clients with monthly billing statements with the information you need to submit to your insurance. All insurances are different, but many will reimburse you a percentage of therapy costs once your out-of-network deductible has been met.

We discuss this and other logistics during the intake appointment. Many of my clients begin therapy by scheduling weekly or bi-weekly (every other week) appointments.

In general, what you say in therapy stays in therapy. However, there are some limitations to confidentiality. These include statements or behaviors that suggest you are a threat to yourself or others, reporting of child abuse or neglect, and any information you agree to share in a release of information. For children and teens, there are also some other areas, such as risky behaviors, that I may also need to share with caregivers. We will discuss this, and I can answer any questions about confidentiality, during our intake appointment.

Just give me a call (443-402-5082) or send me an email (amie.myrick@gmail.com)!

My rates are $175.00 for an intake appointment, and $150 for all additional 50-minute sessions.

I do not double book my calendar. That means when I schedule you for an appointment, that time is set aside for you and no one else. Therefore, I charge my full fee for a no-show appointment and for any cancellation within 24 hours of the session.

Finding the right therapist is a very personal decision. Only you can decide if a therapist is right for you. I can tell you that I do not take an offense if a person meets with me and decides that I am not the right therapist for them or that they’d like to try a different approach.

It can be hard to begin a relationship with a therapist without any assurances as to how long you will need therapy. I can not say how many sessions you will need, but I can assure that you we will discuss this regularly as we work through your treatment goals.

My office is located at 1205 York Road, Suite 39B in Lutherville, Maryland.

I also practice telehealth, and sessions are conducted via Google Duo.
